The File That Was Never Shredded

The case

One file survived a night of destruction in 1989 and has just been offered for sale in Mitte. Follow it through courtyards and back staircases and decide whose name should never have been in it.

How the experience works

  1. 01

    Meet your Game Master

You are met in person at a confirmed meeting point in Berlin, briefed on the case and handed your first materials.

  2. 02

    Work the streets

Follow the trail through real locations, question what you find and talk to the people you meet along the way.

  3. 03

    Trade what you know

The group splits, compares findings and decides which lead is worth the remaining time.

  4. 04

    Reach the truth

The case closes with a live finale, and the group decides who can be trusted.

Booked for eleven, it scaled fine
I was worried a bigger group would mean half of us standing around. They split us into two teams with a host each and we crossed paths twice, which turned into a bit of a race. Organising was easy — one email, they came back with everything confirmed in writing.

Two hours that went in about twenty minutes
I booked it thinking it would be a walking tour with a gimmick. It absolutely was not. Our host stayed in it the whole way, never broke, and kept nudging the slower ones of us without ever making it obvious. By the last clue the four of us were arguing in the street like we actually cared who did it. We did care.

The city did half the work, the host did the rest
We've lived here for years and it still took us down two streets I'd never walked. The case file is a proper physical thing — folded paper, photographs, a train ticket — and you get weirdly protective of it. Small thing: bring shoes you can walk in. Nobody tells you that.
